Our laboratory provides testing services to health care practitioners, enabling them to better identify the presence of organisms within the phylum of bacteria called Spirochetes, and other pathogenic organisms commonly transferred through the bite of various insects. These other organisms are often referred to as Lyme related co-infections. Patients infected with spirochete organisms may exhibit manifestations of infection which can include arthritis, carditis, and neurologic deficits, along with an array of other differing symptoms.
Spiro Stat uses modern molecular diagnostic approaches that have been validated under stringent criteria. All laboratory testing is performed in association with a CAP accredited CLIA laboratory, Southwest Regional PCR.

Lyme disease (borreliosis) is just one of many challenging diseases caused by spirochetes for health care practitioners to indentify, diagnose, and treat.
The Spiro Stat Lyme panel utilizes the specificity of DNA by first selectively targeting parts of the genetic code that are specific to unwanted bacteria. These bacteria can be found in body fluids or a tissue sample.

These specific bacterial DNA parts are amplified and then sequencing. This allows Spiro Stat to not only detect the bacteria, but also determine the specific identity of the organisms causing the disease. This PCR and sequencing combination is collectively called Molecular Confirmation.
Lyme disease may be one of the fastest growing epidemics in the world. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as quoted from NutraNews, “there is considerable underreporting of Lyme disease, maintaining that the actual infection rate may be 1.8 million, 10 times higher than the 180,000 cases currently reported.”

The following organisms can be detected and identified using the test panels offered by Spiro Stat Technologies.
